I am the Struggle

I am the Struggle of my ancestors
I believe in a dream
Like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A dream of unity
Not the constant fight, which separates us from joining together
But becoming as one united group of minorities
If you haven’t noticed we all are the same

I am the Disappointment
Not because of the things I haven’t done
But because of the sons, and who become fathers
Who left their children with their mothers
All by themselves because they are
Scared to face to the world

I am the Pain
The kind of pain that stings and burns
When you get a paper cut
Hurting, causing you to be in so much pain
Man, all I ask is for you to forgive me

I am the hurt
That never went anyway
Just masked from the lies
And the disappointment that I carry
It comes from the struggle and the pain that I never let go
Because I just can’t forgive
I am not what you think
I am much more than some forgotten girl on the street

Facing my own fears
I found the hurt and solved it
I dried up the tears, and never let them drop
I understand the disappointment and I take it for what it is
It’s the struggle within me that I continue not to give up
